Host the 30-Day Experience
We are looking for more places where we can provide this veteran suicide awareness experience.
If you have a piece of property with unoccupied land near a road and you are associated with a local group that would like to help put on this presentation please contact us. Our typical layouts require 300 to 500 feet of unobstructed road frontage.
We will set things up for you, bring everything you need to the your space and provide all the help you need to get up and running. It would be a 30 day commitment for your group and a 40 day commitment for the property owner.

Volunteer
You could spend 15 minutes helping us to put up 22 crosses one day.
Come out to where we are putting up new crosses. You don’t have to do anything, but you are permitted to help put up 22 crosses a day, write the name of a veteran who has committed suicide on one of the blank crosses, or just lend your moral support to folks who are there. You may come to be comforted or to find other ways you can help a veteran choose to live.

Donate
We need your help to pay direct expenses
The organizers of 22aday.org paid for the crosses and the trailer and all the equipment involved out of their own pockets. There is still a need for cash to buy fuel, to repair the crosses and the equipment, to purchase insurance, licenses and for advertising. We will not use anything you donate for any purpose other than to spread our message. Nobody is paid a salary. Nobody is paid to do fundraising.

Contact your Legislators
You can reach out to your state’s elected officials to encourage them to act
They main thing we ask you to do is periodically contact your representatives and tell them:
1) You will never abandon our servicemembers and veterans and you don’t think the legislature should either.
2) You are willing to have other areas of the budget cut to improve service to our veterans and those who are defending our country across the globe.
3) If the funds are earmarked for veteran support, you would even be willing to pay hired taxes.
4) Remind them of George Washington’s words: “The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive veterans of early wars were treated and appreciated.” With all that is going on in the world today, this is not the time to discourage military service.
You might also mention in your contact with the legislators that family members and caregivers are the front line of support for active military and veterans. We should be taken care of them as well.

Suicide Education and Prevention
Educate yourself and others about the causes and warning signs of suicide
There are several organizations that provide information about suicide, its causes, how to help yourself, how to help others and recognizing the need to act.
One of them is HelpGuide.Org. This website is designed for everyday people who are either facing difficulties or who know somebody who is struggling.
The VA also has a guided self study and other information specific to helping veterans: VA support.
